Nottingham Forest have won six of their seven matches against Leeds United in domestic cup competitions (L1), recording three wins in the FA Cup, two in the League Cup and most recently a 3-1 win in the Full Members Cup in October 1991.
This is the third meeting between Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in the EFL Cup, with the two previous meetings coming in the semi final of the 1977-78 edition, with Brian Clough’s Forest winning 3-1 in the first leg and 4-2 in the second leg before going on to beat Bob Paisley’s Liverpool 1-0 in the final to claim the trophy for the first time.
As a top-flight side, Nottingham Forest have won just one of their last nine EFL Cup matches against fellow top-flight teams, losing six of those (D2). Meanwhile, they’ve been eliminated in each of the last three when facing Premier League sides.
Leeds United are looking to progress to the third round of the EFL Cup for the first time since the 2022-23 season, after going out at the second round stage of the 2023-24 and 2025-26 editions to Salford City and Sheffield Wednesday respectively, whilst also going out in the first round to Middlesbrough in 2024-25.
Since the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign, no team has lost more EFL Cup penalty shootouts than Leeds United, with four of their seven exits during this period coming via penalty shootouts.
