Fantasy EFL managers are in for a treat - the second double gameweek of the season is upon us, double gameweek 9!

What are the key points?

In total, all 24 Championship sides and four League One sides are playing twice.

The gameweek starts on Friday night as WBA face Leicester City in the Championship. The gameweek will conclude on October 1 with four Championship games.

And don’t forget - if you haven’t signed up already, this is the perfect opportunity to do so!

Fantasy EFL uses a rolling lockout mechanic. This means that as soon as a team's match kicks off, their players and the team itself become locked. Once locked, you can no longer add, remove, or change the captain/vice-captain of that team. This means you must carefully consider kickoff times and plan your team accordingly, as your selections will become locked as soon as their matches start!

Max Captain chip

Fantasy EFL managers get to look forward to not just one, but two max captain chips this season.

The Max Captain chip automatically makes your highest-scoring player the captain for that gameweek, but it must be applied before the gameweek kicks off. You can also reset it anytime before the first game begins.

You can use your Max Captain chip twice over the course of the season – once between between 1st August 2025 and 4th February 2026, and once more between 5th February 2026 and the end of the season.

But if you do not use your first Max Captain chip before 5th February 2026, you’ll only have one Max Captain chip to play before the end of the season - it will not roll over!

This chip is the ultimate safety net for your team's captaincy. Instead of gambling on a single player, the game's highest-scoring performer on your squad automatically gets the captain's armband and the points boost that comes with it. This is a no-risk, all-reward move that eliminates the "what if" of a bad captain choice, making it a pure points booster. Using it is a strategic must if you want to outscore your rivals and secure a top spot in your mini-league.
