“Gillingham may have been disappointed to only finish 17th last season, but will be hoping they can push towards promotion under their new manager.

“The early signs are good as they currently sit top of League Two on goal difference.”

Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies said: “Gareth Ainsworth has Gillingham flying with an unbeaten start to the season, building on the strong form they showed after his arrival in March.

“The Gills have taken 14 points from their opening six fixtures to sit top of League Two, but the odds still have them as outsiders for the title.

“We are offering 16/1 for the title and 3/1 for promotion, and this hasn’t changed much from the start of the season. A quick start is nothing new for Gillingham and the real test will be sustaining it over the long haul.”
