It was a busy transfer deadline day for EFL clubs, capping off what's been an exciting summer transfer window.

Here's a summary of the day's transfers across the divisions:

Sky Bet Championship

After a slow start to their season, last year's play-off finalists Sheffield United capped off a busy transfer window with four deadline day signings. The Blades started the day with the signing of midfielder Alex Matos from Chelsea, before adding defensive strength through Mark McGuinness from Luton Town and experienced free agent Ben Mee. Ruben Selles also brought in speedy attacker Chiedozie Ogbene on loan from Ipswich Town.

Portsmouth were also busy on deadline day, bringing in four new signings, a standout being promising young talent Franco Umeh from Crystal Palace on a four year deal.

Birmingham City ended a fruitful window with two late signings in the form of Sheffield United Captain Jack Robinson on a two year deal.

Watford welcomed two new defensive options, Jeremy Petris and Formose Mendy arriving at Vicarage Road.

Charlie Taylor headed from Southampton to West Bromwich Albion on loan, with Samuel Iling-Junior also making a loan switch to the Baggies from Aston Villa.

Also departing Southampton on loan were James Bree (Charlton Athletic) and Will Smallbone (Millwall).

Sheffield Wednesday welcomed promising youngster Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United, while Swansea City secured the signature of Celtic striker Adam Idah on a five year contract.

Sky Bet League One

Luton Town showed their intent, making four new signings on deadline day. The arrivals of Shayden Morris (Aberdeen), Ethon Archer (Cheltenham Town), Joe Gbode (Gillingham) and Ali Al-Hamadi (Ipswich Town) add strength to a side looking for immediate promotion back to the Championship.

Leyton Orient made a statement in signing young striker Dom Ballard on a permanent deal from Southampton. Becoming Orient's fifteenth signing of the window, Ballard joins on a three-year contract, with the option of a fourth year.

Strugglers Peterborough United brought in Wrexham duo Tom O'Connor and Jacob Mendy on loan deals, as well as welcoming Jimmy-Jay Morgan on loan from Chelsea. They ended the day with the signing of Harry Leonard from Blackburn Rovers on a three year deal.

Stockport County brought in two new names, with Tyler Onyango returning on loan from Everton and Ben Osborn arriving from Derby County on loan.

Exeter City brought in three new names, signing Akeel Higgins and Carlos Mendes Gomes on loan and Danny Andrew on a one year deal.

Cyrus Christie signed for Bolton Wanderers as a free agent having departed Swansea in the summer, joining Marcus Forss (loan from Middlesbrough) as Bolton's two signings.

Port Vale signed both George Hall (Birmingham City) and Devante Cole (West Brom) to bolster their attacking options.

Elsewhere in League One, Wigan brought in Ollie Cooper on loan from Swansea, Toby Savin on a one year deal from Shrewsbury and Raphael Borges Rodrigues on loan from Coventry City.

Tranmere Rovers secured the signature of prolific striker Joe Ironside on a three year deal from Doncaster Rovers, adding to this business with the loan signing of goalkeeper Jack Barrett from Blackburn Rovers.

Two Bristol City youngsters are heading on loan to Swindon Town, midfielder Adam Murphy and defender Jamie Knight-Lebel the new recruits.

Walsall brought in Jid Okeke and Rico Richards on loan from Stockport County and Port Vale respectively, while Bristol Rovers secured four loan signings.

Shrewsbury Town picked up young Peterborough United striker Bradley Ihionvien on loan, while Chesterfield brought in Will Dickson on loan from Manchester City.

Crewe Alexandra picked up three new signings, notably bringing in Dion Rankine on a two year deal from Wigan Athletic. Neo Eccleston arrived at Grimsby Town from Huddersfield Town on a season long loan.
