As one of the host nations of next summer's World Cup, United States did not require a qualifying campaign to secure their place at the tournament, instead playing two friendlies during the break. The USMNT drew their opening friendly against Ecuador, but followed that up with a 2-1 win against Australia.

A familiar name got both goals on the night for United States, that name being Haji Wright. The Coventry City striker is having a season to remember for Club and country, adding his 10th and 11th goals of the season whilst on international duty. The 27 year-old is currently the top scorer in the Sky Bet Championship, with eight goals in nine outings.

Also featuring for the USMNT during the break was Aidan Morris of Middlesbrough, whilst Derby County forward Patrick Agyemang was an unused substitute in both friendlies.
