With former Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham following in the footsteps of his older brother Jude by moving to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, WhoScored have taken a look at what fans in Germany can expect from the 19-year-old.
Even Premier League promotion won't be enough for Sunderland to retain Jobe Bellingham’s services.
The 19-year-old, who played a key role in the Black Cats' Play-Off triumph over Sheffield United, has signed for German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Bellingham is walking a familiar path by moving to the Bundesliga side, following in older brother Jude’s footsteps to the Westfalenstadion.
While some may suggest Dortmund made a move for Bellingham due to his name, the young midfielder still proved his effectiveness in this Sunderland side, excelling in a number of central midfield roles.

Niko Kovac’s decision to switch to a three-man defence for the final weeks of the season, a system that saw Dortmund secure a Champions League finish, increases the possibility of Bellingham succeeding in Germany.
Indeed, using a 3-4-2-1 setup, Kovac needs his central midfielders to carry out a number of duties in order for the system to succeed.
Reports suggest there are to be minimal changes to the current Dortmund squad this summer, but question marks over Emre Can’s future, combined with Pascal Gross’ advancing years, mean investment in a key area is of the utmost importance.
Bellingham will provide a vital injection of youth in the middle of the park and go some way to improving Dortmund’s defensive resolve.

While the German side finished the campaign in fourth, they conceded 51 league goals last season, the same as Augsburg and Union Berlin, who finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
Bellingham could go some way to getting this figure down, having made more tackles (79) than any other player under the age of 21 in the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
In addition, Bellingham’s tackle success rate of 82.3% ranked 11th of the 103 players to have attempted at least 75 tackles in England’s second.
Factor in that Bellingham finished the season fourth for possession in the midfield third (158), and it’s for good reason that the Sunderland star boasts a statistically calculated WhoScored.com strength of ‘defensive contribution’.
Crucially, too, is that a midfielder in a two-man setup is able to provide in the final third, which Bellingham did to a solid standard in the Sky Bet Championship last season.
While he managed just three assists, it wasn’t for want of trying, evident in that Bellingham finished the campaign top for key passes of players under the age of 21 (48).
He can provide the chances for teammates, and it’s up to them to tuck these opportunities away.
With the likes of Serhou Guirassy, Maximilian Beier and Karim Adeyemi to pick out in attack, Bellingham’s assist haul will be higher in the coming league campaign.
While he hasn't come cheap, Dortmund struck gold with brother Jude in 2020 and are hoping to follow that up with another Bellingham success story five years later.
If he can build upon a fine Sunderland campaign, then Jobe should have few issues transitioning from the English second-tier to the Bundesliga.
