Following a vital role in Millwall’s Championship run-in in April, in which he scored five goals in six league games, Mihailo Ivanovic has been named the EA Sports FC EFL Young Player of the Month for April.

Having started his youth career in his native Serbia, with a loan-spell at Sampdoria in-between, Ivanovic joined Millwall in August 2024.

After an incredible first season on English soil, he was named Young Player of the Year at the Millwall's end of season awards, also winning the Goal of the Season award.

On his time in England so far, Ivanovic said, “I’ve had so much help from my teammates and the coach, Alex Neil, he has helped me a lot to adapt to the Sky Bet Championship, and I think he was the main reason I’ve been able to adapt.

“We do video analysis after training every week to tell me what am I doing wrong, what is good, what I need to improve on, movement and that stuff like that. He’s helped me a lot with that and I think that was one of the main reasons what helped me to adapt in the Championship.”

The Serbian finished his first season in the Championship with an impressive haul of 12 goals, which he says is all thanks to his aerial ability: “I love scoring headers,” he said. “Even in the youth teams I loved scoring headers - I think most of my goals were headers - I think that came from my father!

“But my favourite goal of the season was against Blackburn Rovers at home, in the 96^th minute to win the game 1-0, I would say that one. The best goal I scored was against Luton, but my favourite was the one against Blackburn.”

Millwall manager, Alex Neil, was delighted to see his striker’s important goals recognised with this award, he said: “It’s really pleasing to see Mihailo recognised with this award - it’s the cherry on top of what has been a very successful first season for him in English football.

“It’s easy to forget how young he is, given the form he’s shown in front of goal. He’s only 20 years old, away from his family, in a new league and country - but the way he’s adapted and shown a desire to constantly improve his game has been great to see.

“Scoring five goals at such a crucial stage of the season was massive for us and, as part of a huge team effort, helped us fight for a top six spot right up until the final day. It’s great to see him rewarded for that form.”
