Tottenham Hotspur's Antonin Kinsky stars in dream Carabao Cup Semi-Final debut

Tottenham Hotspur's new goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has made a dream start to life at the club, playing a starring role in their Carabao Cup Semi-Final first-leg victory over Liverpool.

Spurs have been scuppered with injuries, leaving first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario along with backup option Fraser Forster sidelined.

21-year-old Kinsky was Ange Postecoglou's answer. The Czech goalkeeper signed from Slavia Prague this week on a deal until 2031 and is already proving to be worth every penny.

He made six saves to keep Liverpool at bay, becoming the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet on their Tottenham debut since Paulo Gazzaniga in November 2017.

"I am a big dreamer. I always like to make my own visions but I would never have dreamed this. I am really happy for the whole club and I am so happy for me and happy for the whole team," Kinsky explained at full-time.

His family made the trip to North London and made sure to embrace him at the end of the game. Appearing in a major cup competition for one of England's biggest clubs would have seemed unimaginable for Kinsky a year ago.

He spent time on loan in the Czech second tier before joining FK Pardubice for another loan from Slavia Prague, where his playing time was very limited.

There were rumours of a departure from Slavia in the summer due to his lack of minutes, but an unfortunate injury to their first-choice goalkeeper at Euro 2024 allowed him to prove himself.

He stepped in with some exceptional performances, conceding only seven goals in 19 league matches.

Some eye-catching displays in the Europa League drew interest from Spurs, with his spectacular rise sparking comparisons to Czech legendary goalkeeper, Petr Cech.

Cech arrived in England back in 2004 with greater experience having already spent two seasons in Ligue 1.

He hit the ground running with the League Cup being his first major trophy at Chelsea, and Kinsky will be hoping for the same.

Spurs' latest addition might be taking it game by game, but could play a key part in any potential success his side have in the competition this season.

While there's still a second leg and potential Final to contend with, Postecoglou has been impressed with how he's handled himself so far, saying: "We sensed his confidence when we first spoke to him. That is a big occasion for a young lad and he handled himself outstandingly."
