Cardiff City hosted Hull City in what was a massive game between two sides at the bottom of the table. Heading into the game, Cardiff sat in 21st place, level on points with 20th-placed Hull.

Callum Robinson's 12th goal of the season helped Cardiff break the deadlock in the 52nd minute, a lead that they managed to see through against a Hull side who struggled in front of goal.

Cardiff City climbed three places after their 1-0 win, with Hull next facing Plymouth Argyle in what could be another relegation six-pointer.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough returned to winning ways after a poor run of form, brushing aside Stoke City in a 3-1 win. Goals from Marcus Forss, Finn Azaz and Tommy Conway helped Boro to a much-needed win on the road, moving them back to within 4 points of the play-off places.

Stoke City on the other hand fall to 20th, in desperate need of results to move away from the relegation scrap.

In an encounter between two of the division's form teams, Birmingham City secured a convincing win over Leyton Orient. Orient were reduced to ten men after just 12 minutes and remained on the back foot for the majority of the rest of the game. Birmingham's goals in their 2-0 win came from Taylor Gardner-Hickman and the in-form Ethan Laird.

Wigan Athletic condemned Huddersfield Town to their second defeat in a row, coming out as 2-1 winners. This was the Latics' first win in 5 games and sees them open up the gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Barnsley also emerged victorious on the night, securing a 2-1 away win over Northampton Town thanks to a brace from star-man Davis Keillor-Dunn. Keillor-Dunn now has 12 league goals for the season, reaching the landmark with 2 typically emphatic finishes.

There was late drama in League Two as league leaders Walsall saw a 2-0 lead vanish thanks to two stoppage-time goals from Cheltenham Town.

Walsall led going into the 90th minute thanks to goals from Ellis Harrison and Albert Adomah, only to concede twice in added time thanks to goals from George Miller and Jordan Thomas in a dramatic climax.

These dropped points allowed Bradford City to reduce the gap to Walsall to 7 points. Bradford travelled to Bromley and gave their strong away support something to cheer with a late winner from Bobby Pointon.

Fleetwood Town completed a comeback win away to Gillingham, with a goal either side of half-time enough to ensure the three points made the long journey back up to Lancashire thanks to a 2-1 win.

In a big game at the bottom of the table, Accrington Stanley narrowly beat struggling Tranmere Rovers, with Shaun Whalley's 8th goal of the season the difference. Shortly after the game, Tranmere Rovers announced that Nigel Adkins had stepped down from his position as Manager of the club.
