Wrexham AFC striker Ollie Palmer has been awarded the Carabao Cup Player of the Round award for Round One.

The 33-year-old starred in the Red Dragons' hard-fought victory over fellow Championship outfit Hull City, as they came from two goals down to win the tie 5-3 on penalties.

After initially taking the lead through Elliot Lee, Hull City’s Ollie McBurnie drew level before two second-half goals from the Tigers looked to seal the victory.

But for the heroics of Wrexham substitute Palmer, whose dramatic brace in the 91^st and 92^nd minutes forced spot kicks.

Palmer then converted from 12 yards, alongside James McLean, Lee, Josh Windass and Jack Marriott, while Joel Ndala hit the woodwork for the visitors.

In an interview with the Club following the game, Palmer said: “I’m feeling emotional. The penalties were great, five clinical penalties.

“I really enjoyed it and more importantly, we’re through to the next round, and it’s a fantastic cup to go on and try and go as far as possible.

“It was disappointing to go 3-1 down initially. The manager told me to get stuck in, impact the game and do what I do.

“We always dig deep, we’ve done that for the past few years and made this place into a fortress.”
