Vertu Trophy Final 2025: Post-match stats

Here are all the stats from Peteborough United's 2-0 victory over League One champions, Birmingham City. 

  • Peterborough United have become the first team in the history of the EFL Trophy to win the competition in consecutive seasons, beating Wycombe in 2024 and Birmingham today.
  • Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has become the first manager in EFL Trophy history to lift the trophy three times, winning it in 2014, 2024 and 2025, all with Posh.
  • This was Birmingham’s first defeat at Wembley since losing the 1956 FA Cup final against Manchester City – they had won three in a row at the national stadium going into this game.
  • Peterborough United have a 100%-win ratio at Wembley, winning all five of their matches there. This is the most games any team has played at Wembley while winning each game; before today, Peterborough were level with Barcelona (4/4).
  • Hector Kyprianou scored Peterborough United’s second goal and in doing so became the first ever Cypriot scorer at Wembley stadium.
  • Peterborough scored 22 goals in this season’s EFL Trophy, their most ever in a single campaign in the competition. Only five teams in the history of the competition have scored more in one season.
  • Birmingham had been 15 games unbeaten in the EFL Trophy going into today’s final (W14 D1). This was their first loss in the competition since January 1992 against Walsall under Terry Cooper.
