August's Sky Bet League One Manager & Player of the Month winners

The winners of the Sky Bet League One Manager and Player of the Month awards are:

Phil Parkinson (Wrexham)

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has been named the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for August.

Moving up a division and refreshing their squad hasn’t halted Wrexham’s momentum under Parkinson. Their 10 points from four unbeaten games included scoring three times in both home wins and an impressive goalless draw at Bolton.

Parkinson said: “A lot of hard work has gone into it, from pre-season all the way through to the end of that first month. Everyone connected to the Club can take great credit for the work that has gone in.

“It’s great to get the award, for myself but more importantly for everybody; the players, and all the staff – and I mean all the staff, because everybody contributes. We can congratulate ourselves on it, but it is just the first month of the season and we know that and there’s so much more work to be done.

“But we’re really enjoying being in this division. You can sense it – there’s a great anticipation on the training ground every day, and a competitive edge in the way we’re going about our business.”

Louie Barry (Stockport County)

Stockport County striker Louie Barry has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for August.

Barry is becoming a scorer of great goals judging by the three he managed in August. He began with an audacious 30-yard lob against Cambridge, added a brilliant run at Blackpool and timed a dropping ball to perfection against Bristol Rovers.

Stockport manager Dave Challinor said: "Louie has scored three eye catching goals which have drawn plenty of plaudits, but beyond that has played an integral part in the team starting this season in a positive manner - with plenty more still to come."

Barry said: "Winning this award means a lot to me, particularly because it's come as part of a great month for the team. You never really know what to expect or how it's going to go when stepping up a league, but with the squad we have we feel capable of winning any game and that's shown in the results so far. This is an award for the whole team, because they give me the platform here to show what I can do week in, week out.

“For me personally, coming back from injury, scoring with my first touch of the season against Cambridge just put a spring in my step and I've really kicked on since then. There's still more to come, from me and from the team, but it's been a great start and long may it continue."
