The upcoming Quarter-Final fixture will be the eighth time the teams have met in the competition with Spurs winning five compared to United's three victories.

We've taken a look at two of their biggest matches - the 2009 League Cup Final and their meeting in 1999 during United's historic treble-winning season.

2009 League Cup Final

Spurs went into the Final as defending champions having defeated Chelsea the season before in the first League Cup Final to be staged at the new Wembley.

As for United, they were viewed as favourites having lifted the Premier League and Champions League the season before.

Both sides cruised through the early rounds with Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko the competition's top scorer alongside United's Carlos Tevez - both with six goals.

The match finished 0-0 after extra time with both defences dominating the game with very few clear-cut opportunities.

Second-choice goalkeeper Ben Foster was the hero in the shootout for United and picked up the man of the match award with Spurs missing two penalties. Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez, Ronaldo and Anderson were successful for United from 12-yards.

Spurs remain without a major trophy so will be hoping to overcome United this time on the road to Wembley.

1998/99 Quarter-Final

The biggest season in United's history is their historic treble win back in 1999. They lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, but were knocked out by Spurs at this stage of the League Cup preventing a quadruple.

Spurs ran out 3-1 winners with a masterclass performance from David Ginola who scored and registered one assist. Teddy Sheringham managed to claw one back for the Red Devils but it wasn't enough.

Tottenham went on to lift the trophy, while United won't be too disheartened given what they achieved a few months later.
