Gameweek 1's top performing players

With the first ever gameweek of Fantasy EFL (almost - Luton Town v Burnley is still to come on Monday night) in the books, here is a rundown of the top scoring players in each position.

Goalkeepers

Starting between the sticks, Sunderland's Anthony Patterson and Port Vale's Connor Ripley led the way with nine points each, with the pair keeping clean sheets and making four and three saves respectively.

They were followed by a clutch of 15 goalies who all picked up seven points each.

Defenders

There were six standout defensive performances in gameweek 1, with Charlton Athletic's Lloyd Jones leading the way on 17 points, courtesy of his goalscoring appearance and clean sheet in the Addicks' 1-0 win away at Wigan.

Ben Goodliffe may have conceded four goals as his Colchester United side lost 4-2 at AFC Wimbledon, but the centre-half's brace gave him a 16-point haul, matching Kamarl Grant's tally which included a goal and clean sheet in Bromley's 2-0 win against Harrogate Town on their EFL debut.

And Paudie O'Connor also picked up 16 points by twice getting on the scoresheet in Lincoln City's 3-2 win over Burton Albion.

Bryant Bilongo (Bristol Rovers) and Theo Vassell (Barrow) also shone, with 15 points each.

Midfielders

Luke Molyneux was the star man in midfield, scoring twice in Doncaster Rovers' 4-1 win against Accrington Stanley, and also picking up extra points with an assist and key passes for a 19-point haul.

Joel Colwill of Cheltenham Town was the next strongest midfield points-getter, with his brace in a 3-2 win over Newport County contributing to his 15 points.

Ben Garrity (Port Vale) and Armando Junior Quitirna (Crawley Town) each bagged 14 points, and Ben Wiles (Huddersfield Town) rounded out the top five with 13 points.

Forwards

Fantasy EFL's top perfomer over the weekend, unsurprisingly, was West Brom's Josh Maja, following his superb hat-trick in the Baggies' 3-1 success at QPR, with his five-point bonus for bagging a treble taking him to 23 points - a real feather in the cap for the 0.2% of users who selected the frontman.

Millwall's Duncan Watmore hit the net twice in a defeat against Watford to pick up 14 points, while Callum Lang's own brace in Portsmouth's seesaw 3-3 draw with Leeds United secured him a 12-point haul.

Closely behind were Omar Bugiel (AFC Wimbledon) and Kyle Wootton (Stockport County) with 11 points each.
