Notts County set to reach 5,000th league fixture

Notts County are set to hit a milestone 5,000 league games this weekend when they travel to Gillingham.

The Magpies, the world's oldest professional League team, make the trip to Priestfield to take on the Gills in Sky Bet League Two in the historic fixture.

County, one of the oldest EFL Clubs, join an exclusive list of teams to reach the landmark, with Blackburn Rovers having done so earlier in the 2023/24 campaign. Others include Preston North End, Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County, Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion.

Last term, the Club made their EFL return following a four-year absence which delayed the milestone. However, County went up via the Play-Offs in dramatic fashion, beating Boreham Wood to reach Wembley where they overcame Chesterfield in the Final.

And Luke Williams' side are vying to make it back-to-back promotions, having started the new season brightly. The Magpies sit in second in the league standings, having only recently been knocked off their perch at the top.
