26 May 2023

Carlisle United and Stockport County lock horns in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final this weekend. Get the lowdown with our stat pack...

  • Carlisle United are playing in their first ever Football League Play-Off Final, and are looking to return to League One for the first time since 2013/14.
  • Stockport County are playing their fourth Football League Play-Off Final. They lost in the third tier to Peterborough and Burnley in 1992 and 1994 respectively, and beat Rochdale 3-2 in 2008 (League Two).
  • Carlisle United have won just one of their last eight meetings with Stockport in all competitions (D3 L4), a 2-1 away win in August 2009. The two League Two meetings this term ended with a 2-0 win for the Hatters and a 2-2 draw.
  • Having won the National League title last year, Stockport could earn consecutive promotions to reach League One. They would be the first team to do so since Tranmere Rovers in 2018/18 and 2018/19.
  • All four of Carlisle's previous games played at Wembley Stadium have been in the Football League Trophy Final (W1 D1 L2). Their last such match was a 1-0 win against Brentford in 2011.
  • Stockport have lost four of their five matches at Wembley Stadium, though their only such victory was in their last match there and in a League Two Play-Off Final (3-2 v Rochdale in 2008).
  • Carlisle have won just three of their last 13 matches in all competitions (D6 L4), and following their 3-1 win over Bradford in the Semi-Final second leg are looking for consecutive victories for the first time since March.
  • Stockport County have lost just one of their last 15 matches (W7 D7), going down 1-0 against Salford City in the first leg of their Play-Off Semi-Final.
  • Including play-offs, no player has more League Two assists this season than Carlisle United's Owen Moxon (16), with Moxon setting up Ben Barclay's tie-winning goal against Bradford in the semi-final.
  • If he plays, this will be Stockport striker Paddy Madden's second appearance at Wembley Stadium, and first since giving Yeovil Town the lead in their League One Play-Off Final against Brentford 10 years and nine days ago.
