Hull City v West Bromwich Albion

Blackburn Rovers v Sheffield United

  • Sheffield United are looking to win three consecutive league games against Blackburn for the first time since August 1987.
  • Blackburn are unbeaten in their last seven league games (W3 D4) since losing 4-0 at Rotherham United. It’s their best unbeaten run since going 10 games without defeat between November 2021 and January 2022.
  • Sheffield United have picked up just two points in their last three away league games (D2 L1), having won their five away games prior to this run.
  • Sam Gallagher scored twice for Blackburn in their 3-1 away win at QPR last time out – he hadn’t scored in his previous 14 league appearances beforehand and last netted in consecutive Championship appearances in July 2020.

Cardiff City v Bristol City

  • Cardiff City have lost their last three league games against Bristol City, last losing four in a row between 2001 and 2007.
  • Bristol City have won their last three league visits to Cardiff – before this run, they had endured a nine-match winless away run at the Bluebirds (D2 L7).
  • Cardiff are looking to win consecutive home league games for the first time since winning their opening two home league games this season against Norwich and Birmingham.
  • Bristol City are unbeaten in their last nine league games (W4 D5), their longest unbeaten league run since going 10 games without defeat between August and October 2019.
  • Nakhi Wells has scored in his last two league appearances for Bristol City, scoring a penalty in both as a substitute. Wells hasn’t scored in three league games in a row since doing so in his final three QPR appearances in January 2020.

Blackpool v Burnley

  • This is the first league meeting between Blackpool and Burnley at Bloomfield Road since April 2014, a 1-0 win for the Clarets thanks to a goal from Michael Kightly.
  • Burnley are unbeaten in their last three league games against Blackpool (W2 D1) since losing 1-0 away from home back in April 2013.
  • Blackpool have won only one of their last 17 league matches (D6 L10), a 1-0 home win over Stoke City in their last home match. The Seasiders haven’t won consecutive home league games since March 2022.
  • Burnley’s last league game saw them win 4-0 against Huddersfield, their third win by 4+ goals in the Championship this season. It’s their most wins by a 4+ goal margin in a league season since 2015-16 (3), last having more in 1983-84 (5).
  • During his time managing in English football’s top four tiers, Blackpool’s Mick McCarthy has won 12 league matches against Burnley – he’s only registered more wins against Derby (14) and Charlton (13).

Huddersfield Town v Coventry City

  • The last two league meetings between Huddersfield and Coventry at the John Smith’s Stadium have ended 1-1, with Danny Ward on the scoresheet for the Terriers in both games.
  • Coventry are looking to complete a league double over Huddersfield Town for only the second time, also doing so in the 1971-72 top-flight campaign.
  • Huddersfield Town have picked up just six Championship points in 2023 so far (W1 D3 L5) – only Queens Park Rangers have collected fewer points so far this calendar year (4).
  • Coventry City manager Mark Robins has only won two of his previous eight Football League meetings with sides managed by Neil Warnock (D1 L5), though one of those wins came in the last such encounters as the Sky Blues beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in September 2021.
  • Huddersfield manager Neil Warnock is looking to register consecutive home league wins as manager of the Terriers for the first time since March 1995, when he defeated Chester City and Plymouth Argyle.

Luton Town v Swansea City

  • Luton are looking to complete their first league double over Swansea for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
  • Swansea are unbeaten in their last four away league matches against Luton Town (W3 D1) having won none of their previous nine visits before this run (D2 L7).
  • Luton Town have won their last five league matches against sides from Wales – before this run, they’d won just one of their previous 11 (D2 L8).
  • Swansea City have lost their last two away league matches, last suffering three away defeats in a row back in February 2022.
  • Swansea have kept just two away clean sheets in their last 19 league matches on the road, both against sides currently in the relegation zone (1-0 vs Blackpool in August, 0-0 vs Huddersfield in November).

Middlesbrough v Reading

  • Middlesbrough have won five of their last six home league games against Reading (D1), winning 2-1 last season against the Royals.
  • Following a 1-0 win earlier this season, Reading are looking to complete a league double over Middlesbrough for the first time ever.
  • Since the start of last season, only Sheffield United (80) and Millwall (77) have picked up more home Championship points than Middlesbrough (76), with the Boro winning their last six on home soil.
  • Since the start of last season, Reading have picked up fewer away points in the Championship than any other ever-present side (32), losing more away games than any other side in that time (26).
  • Chuba Akpom has netted 13 home league goals for Middlesbrough this season, the most by a player since Fabrizio Ravanelli scored 14 at the Riverside in the 1996-97 campaign.

Millwall v Norwich City

  • Millwall have won one of their last 11 league games against Norwich City (D3 L7), a 4-0 home win in August 2017.
  • Norwich have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three league games against Millwall (W1 D2), having conceded in each of their previous nine league games against the Lions before this run.
  • Millwall are unbeaten in their last 11 home league matches (W6 D5), last enjoying a longer run without defeat at the Den between November 2017 and April 2018 (13 games).
  • Norwich City have enjoyed five wins in their eight league matches under David Wagner (D1 L2), one more than they’d won in their previous 17 Championship games (W4 D5 L8).
  • Norwich have lost 10 of their last 14 league visits to London clubs (W2 D2), losing the last three in a row by an aggregate score of 8-0.

Rotherham United v QPR

  • Rotherham are unbeaten in their last three home league games against QPR (W2 D1) since a 3-0 defeat in January 2016 with Junior Hoilett, Matt Phillips and Sebastian Polter scoring for the Hoops.
  • Both teams have found the net in each of the last six league meetings between Rotherham and Queens Park Rangers, with 24 goals netted in total at an average of four per game.
  • Rotherham United are looking to win consecutive home league games under Matt Taylor for the first time, last doing so in August this season under former manager Paul Warne.
  • Queens Park Rangers have lost their last four league games, shipping 11 goals across those defeats. The Hoops are the only side without a Championship win in 2023 (P9 D4 L5).
  • Rotherham boss Matt Taylor beat QPR’s new manager Gareth Ainsworth in League One earlier this season, with Exeter winning 3-1 against Wycombe in August. There have only been two instances in Football League history of a manager beating another in two different divisions within the same league season – Sam Allardyce against Neil Warnock in 1999-00 (Notts County 3-1 Bury in third tier, Bolton 2-0 Sheffield United in second tier) and Mark Robins vs Dean Saunders in 2012-13 (Coventry 4-1 Doncaster in League One, Huddersfield 3-1 Wolves in the Championship).

Sunderland v Stoke City

  • Sunderland are looking to complete their first league double over Stoke since the 2011-12 campaign when the sides were in the Premier League.
  • This is Stoke City’s first league visit to Sunderland since January 2017 in the Premier League, winning 3-1 with goals from Marko Arnautovic (x2) and Peter Crouch.
  • Sunderland have lost their last two league matches, as many as in their previous 13 games combined (W7 D4 L2). The Black Cats haven’t lost three in a row since February 2022.
  • Stoke City have lost seven league games 1-0 this season, including last time out against Millwall. It’s their most 1-0 defeats in a league season since 2013-14 (7), last enduring more in 2004-05 (13).
  • Stoke manager Alex Neil’s last win as Sunderland manager was in this fixture in August, a 1-0 win. The last manager to win an EFL fixture with both sides in a single season was Chris Wilder in 2013-14 (Oxford United vs Northampton Town), while in the Championship it’s only happened once since 2004-05, by Sean O’Driscoll in 2012-13 (Bristol City vs Nottingham Forest).

Watford v Preston North End

  • Watford have lost just one of their last seven league games against Preston North End (W3 D3), losing 3-1 in May 2011.
  • Preston are winless in their last five league visits to Watford (D2 L3) since a 2-1 win on the opening day of the 2005-06 season.
  • Watford have won just one of their last seven league games (D4 L2), a 3-2 home win over West Brom in their last game at Vicarage Road.
  • Preston North End have kept eight away clean sheets in the Championship this season, with no side keeping more. It’s their most in a Championship season since 2005-06 (11).
  • Watford’s Ken Sema has been involved in 11 Championship goals this season (4 goals, 7 assists). His seven assists are the most by a Hornets player in a league season since Troy Deeney registered seven in 2015-16 in the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic v Birmingham City

  • Wigan Athletic have won their last three league matches against Birmingham City, their best winning run against the Blues.
  • This is Birmingham’s first league visits to Wigan since October 2019, losing 1-0. Their last win there came in December 2018 under Garry Monk.
  • Although they have only failed to score in eight of their 33 league games this season, Wigan Athletic are the only Championship yet to score three goals in a game this season. They haven’t netted more than once in any of their last 12 games (9 goals in total).
  • Birmingham City have lost nine of their last 11 league games (W2), losing the last four in a row since a 2-0 home win over West Brom.
  • Wigan have only won two of their last 20 league games (D6 L12), both home wins against the two sides also occupying the Championship relegation zone with them, 2-1 against Blackpool in November and 1-0 against Huddersfield in February.
