Vote for your Papa Johns Trophy Player of the Round now!
Following the conclusion of the Papa Johns Trophy Quarter-Final, four standout performers have been nominated for the Player of the Round.
Nominations are as follows:
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (Bolton Wanderers)
The Icelander’s early goal proved the difference in Bolton’s narrow 1-0 win over Portsmouth. Often used as a substitute this season and having recovered from a broken nose, Bodvarsson led the line well while his partnership with Dion Charles is bringing rewards. The pair combined for the only goal with Bodvarsson racing through to slide his side into the last four.
Macaulay Gillesphey (Plymouth Argyle)
The left-sided of three central defenders, Gillesphey played a significant role at both ends of the pitch. His superb through ball set up Ryan Hardie for Argyle’s second goal at Bristol Rovers, while he guided 18-year-old wing-back Jack Endacott through the game, particularly when Rovers introduced dangerous wide man Harvey Saunders for the second half.
Aaron Pressley (Accrington Stanley)
It has been quite the week for the 21-year-old having joined on loan from Brentford on January 4. Physically strong with pace and composure on the ball, Pressley equalised at Lincoln with a calmly struck shot and then made it 2-1 from the spot after being involved in the build-up to the penalty award. He then converted Accrington’s first spot-kick in the shootout.
Liam Sercombe (Cheltenham Town)
Sercombe strode an elegant path through Cheltenham’s 3-1 victory over Salford, constantly making himself available to link play with his range of passing. With the score at 1-1, he calmly collected the ball as it came off the post and lifted it into the Salford net before showcasing his technical ability with an astute flicked assist for Cheltenham’s third goal.
Voting closes at 10am on Monday 16 January.
