Plymouth Argyle book Wembley spot in Papa Johns Trophy Final

21 February 2023

Plymouth Argyle will play at Wembley for only the third time in their history after reaching the Papa Johns Trophy Final.

Argyle needed to win a nerve-shredding penalty shoot-out against a resilient Cheltenham Town side in Tuesday's Semi-Final, after the game finished 1-1 in 90 minutes.

Callum Burton saved Alfie May's spot-kick in the decisive moment to spark joy among the majority of the 12,047 fans at Home Park and send Steven Schumacher's side to the National Stadium on Sunday, 2 April.

Plymouth's two previous visits to Wembley have come in Play-Off Finals, beating Darlington 1-0 in 1996 and losing 2-0 to AFC Wimbledon in 2016.

Argyle will find out their opponents in the Final on Wednesday, when Accrington Stanley host Bolton Wanderers in the other Semi-Final.
