The August nominations for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Award are:
Aaron Collins (Bristol Rovers) - striker
Given the freedom to drift around the pitch, the Welshman is never happier than picking the ball up deep and running at defenders, as he proved with his two goals at Burton, part of a haul of three goals and two assists in five games.
Liam Palmer (Sheffield Wednesday) - wing-back
A momentous month for Palmer who made his 350th appearance for Wednesday, helped preserve four clean sheets and took his career goal tally from four to six, a fitting reward for his heart-warming charity work over the summer.
Sam Smith (Cambridge United) – striker
Smith’s four goals in five games were the most scored by any League One player in August - proof that his 21 in all competitions last season was no fluke. Three were cleverly placed headers, including two in his hat-trick against Burton.
Joe Ward (Peterborough United) – wing-back
Ward set up three goals in August for Jonson Clarke-Harris - from a floated cross, a skimming low ball and by winning a penalty. The rampaging wing-back also found time to gallop forward and score a beauty against Morecambe.
