Simon Bazalgette is stepping down from the EFL Board after more than three years as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
With previous roles including Group Chief Executive of The Jockey Club and Chairman of Jockey Club Racecourses, Bazalgette has been an influential member of the EFL Board, providing a wealth of business and industry experience to the League.
On leaving the Jockey Club after 11 years, in 2020 he co-founded strategic advisory and investment business, Global Venue Services (GVS), which has developed interests across the sports and entertainment sectors.
However, due to the expansion of GVS, particularly in the football industry, he has determined that his position as Chair of GVS has now become incompatible with his role of Independent Non-Executive Director of the EFL, and he has therefore resigned his EFL role, with immediate effect.
The recruitment process for a new Independent Non-Executive Director will begin straight-away.
Bazalgette said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the EFL, working alongside the other Board members and Chairing the League’s Audit and Risk Committee. The last three years have presented many challenges for business and the sports industry, and I’ve been proud to help through that period and seen first-hand how EFL Clubs continue to play a vital role in the communities they represent.”
Chair of the EFL, Rick Parry, said: “I’d like to personally thank Simon for the many and important contributions he’s made throughout his tenure. His input and experience have been invaluable; however, I fully appreciate the decision to step down given his new commitments and he leaves the EFL with our best wishes.”
