Smart Meters

You can’t control the coin toss, but you can take control of your energy use with a smart meter

23 May 2022

Wouldn’t it be nice if your team could win the coin toss every time? Imagine how much more in control you’d feel knowing you could guarantee which end you’ll be attacking from kick-off.

The rules on the coin toss are unlikely to change anytime soon, but off the pitch smart meters can help you feel more in control.

Smart meters record how much electricity or gas you use – just like your existing meters. But with a smart meter, you can also see how much energy you’re using, on an in-home display (IHD).

A smart meter and IHD could help you feel more in control of energy use and take some of the guesswork out of balancing your budget by:

  1. allowing you to have more information about your energy usage. This could help you work out how to save energy around the home. For example, by switching the TV off at the wall.
  2. giving you an accurate bill. Having a smart meter means getting a bill based on how much energy you used – not an estimate.

Don’t just take our word for it, football fans like you are already seeing the benefits of being in control with a smart meter.

Glen, a Blackpool fan, told us: The smart meter and IHD makes you appreciate your energy use. It also lets you keep on top of your bills as you can see at all times what the current cost is.

Shahid, a Bolton fan, also shared his experience of smart meters: Its been a great help and made a huge difference to our household. Previously we had no control over bills and got a surprise when the bills were generated quarterly. Now we can be more economical and see the usage/cost throughout the day and night.

Some homes cant get a smart meter yet. Your energy supplier can tell you if you can have one and how soon it can be installed.
