Troy Parrott's first-half header gave the home side an ideal start as they looked to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit.
Chairboys keeper David Stockdale produced a man of the match performance, denying Scott Twine and Theo Corbeanu as the Dons continued to pour forward.
A brilliant tackle by captain Joe Jacobson then denied Parrott a second, wiith Wycombe holding on to progress to the final 2-1 on aggregate.
Manager Gareth Ainsworth spoke to the EFL after the match:
Wycombe will face Sunderland or Sheffield Wednesday - who play their second leg on Monday - in the final on 21 May.
