Sunderland took a step closer to promotion, overcoming Sheffield Wednesday in the two-legged Sky Bet League One Play-Off Semi-Final!
The Black Cats took a slender lead into the second half in South Yorkshire, courtesy of Ross Stewart’s 25th goal of the season in a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light.
But a sold-out Hillsborough awaited Alex Neil’s side.
Lee Gregory wiped out Sunderland’s advantage in the 74th minute to make it 1-0 to the Owls and 1-1 on aggregate.
Patrick Roberts arrived in injury time to grab a late winner for the Black Cats and send them through to the Final at Wembley on a 2-1 aggregate score-line.
