Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named as the Carabao Cup Player of the Round for the Semi-Finals.
The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes of the second leg as the Reds saw off Arsenal in the two-legged Semi-Final of the competition. And the right-back played his part as a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium booked Liverpool’s place in the 2022 Final where they will face Chelsea.
With the tie goalless heading into the second leg, after Liverpool and Arsenal played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold, who made his debut in the competition six years ago, set up Diogo Jota for Liverpool’s second as the Portuguese international doubled his and Jürgen Klopp side’s lead in the second half.
A perfectly weighted pass found his team-mate in behind the Gunners back-line before Jota chipped goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to put the Reds two goals to the good.
“It means a lot to reach the Final,” he said, on reaching the Wembley Final. “We’ve put in good performances in this competition and have played very well.”
With 43.2% of the vote, Alexander-Arnold saw off competition from Antonio Rüdiger (Chelsea), Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea) and Diogo Jota (Liverpool) to claim the award.
