The nominations are as follows:
Luke Thomas (Leicester City)
Scoring first was always going to be pivotal for Leicester on their visit to MK Dons. They went one better with Thomas providing defence-splitting passes from left-back for each of their first half goals. First, he slid through a low ball which led to Youri Tielemans’ opener, then sent a perfectly flighted ball over the top for Ayoze Perez to make it 2-0.
Che Adams (Southampton)
Adams has had five weeks to build up a healthy goalscoring appetite and his hunger was evident in the 2-1 comeback win over Lincoln. A feature of his play was his willingness to drop to the edge of the area to link up play before switching to poacher mode, which he was in to steer in an equalising header before spinning to turn in the Saints winner.
Ashley Maynard-Brewer (Charlton Athletic)
When Brighton did manage to pierce a determined Charlton defence, Maynard-Brewer stood defiantly in their way. The Australian keeper produced a series of stops in either half, most notably a brilliant tip-over of a point-blank Levi Colwill header. Then, in a madcap penalty shootout, he saved from Moises Caicedo as the League One side won through.
Brennan Johnson (Nottingham Forest)
Johnson has returned from the World Cup re-energised. His driving presence down the right caused Blackburn’s defenders problems all night, whether swinging over dangerous crosses or surging into the box to shoot. He won and converted an early penalty, then capped off Forest’s 4-1 win in style after another fast break on the counter-attack.
Voting will close at midday on Tuesday 27 December.
