Papa Johns Trophy

Moore predicting Millers Wembley heroics

The former Millers boss is confident of victory for the South Yorkshire team!

3 April 2022

Former Rotherham United boss Ronnie Moore is anticipating another Wembley win for the South Yorkshire side in today’s Papa Johns Trophy Final 2022.

The Club legend reflected on his memories of managing at the home of football ahead of kick-off between Rotherham and Sutton United in the showpiece.

“It’s brilliant," he said. "It’s a fantastic place, isn’t it? It’s unbelievable. The only thing was last time I came here as a manager, we lost!

“Being a manager here is massively fun. It was half full when we came and played Dagenham and Redbridge and we lost 3-2. Hopefully today we’ll be going home happy. It’s just a fantastic day for everybody.”

Rotherham overcame another of Moore’s ex-employers Hartlepool United to reach the Final, and the Liverpudlian insisted that today’s Final will be another tough test for the Millers.

“If it was Round One of a cup, we’d win easy, but it’s not; it’s Wembley and it’s a Final," he added. "I’m expecting a tough game, but I’m hopeful that come five o’clock, we’ll be winners."

Nevertheless, offering his prediction for the silverware showdown this afternoon, the 69-year-old was assured of a comfortable win for the Millers.

“It’s our fifth time here. We’ve won three of them and lost one, so I hope Warney doesn’t go what I went through. He’s a lucky man, really.

“I just can’t see anything but a 3-1 win today – I don’t know what it is, I’ve just been thinking about it. Warney’s been here before and he knows what it’s all about, so those lads shouldn’t be nervous today.”
