The August nominations for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month Award are:
Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe Wanderers)
Ainsworth asked his players who wanted a promotion this time around even before last season’s relegation was confirmed. It meant there has been no hangover and a positive, vibrant start has brought 10 points from five games.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Burton Albion)
The only downside with retaining Burton’s League One status so impressively is that Hasselbaink raised expectations for this campaign. No matter. The momentum he built has carried over with 10 points collected from five games.
Lee Johnson (Sunderland)
If the sale of last season’s leading scorer Charlie Wyke dismayed some Sunderland fans, Johnson has quickly allayed their fears by guiding the Black Cats to the top of League One in style with four wins from their opening five games.
Leam Richardson (Wigan Athletic)
No League One side faced a more daunting set of August fixtures than Wigan, who gained 10 points from games against Sunderland, Rotherham, Wycombe, Charlton and Portsmouth. They did it with confidence and shrewd organisation instilled by Richardson.
