iFollow; the EFL’s live streaming service, has won the Best Use of Technology in Football Award at the Football Business Awards 2021.
The 2020/21 campaign was a season like no other. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the EFL became a full-scale streaming provider with iFollow proving a critical lifeline to both Clubs and Supporters.
In a short space of time the League had to upscale its operation to ensure supporters could access every game and help clubs mitigate against lost revenue. Without iFollow (or Club equivalent service) there simply would have been no other way to watch every EFL match and supporters would have been left with no access to their Club.
1,659 games and over 805 million minutes of football were streamed live on iFollow across the season. Over 360,000 fans watched their team through their official club service, in 175 different countries. This included over 160,000 club season ticket holders, who were offered free promotional codes in lieu of a refund or as part of a wider package as determined by individual clubs, protecting vital revenue at a crucial time.
Across all 72 EFL Club streaming services, over £42m of revenue was generated. This money went back to Clubs, supporting them during a season like no other.
