Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month: October nominations

11 November 2021

The October nominations for the Sky Bet ChampionshipPlayer of the Month Award are:

Lloyd Kelly (Bournemouth) – central defender

Kelly turned 23 in October and demonstrated his leadership as the new Bournemouth captain. Calm with an uncanny anticipation, he marshalled a defence which conceded just one goal in five games and strode forward to score against Huddersfield.

Emil Riis Jakobsen (Preston North End) - striker

Growing in confidence with every game, Riis scored four of Preston’s goals in the month he signed a contract extension. His sweetly struck winner against Coventry was bettered by a driven shot from an absurd angle against Luton.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham) – striker

Four goals in August, six in September, eight in October. A hat-trick against West Brom, a brace against QPR and Nottingham Forest, Mitrovic is simply bullying Championship defenders into submission with his power in the air and strength on the ground.

Jerry Yates (Blackpool) - striker

Beginning the month on the Blackpool bench, an injury to Shayne Lavery gave Yates his chance. How he took it. His four goals included two in the comeback at Reading, while he laid on a delightful nutmegged assist against Preston.
