Free-scoring Milton Keynes Dons made it back-to-back wins as Liam Manning’s side replicated an earlier 4-1 score-line against Crewe Alexandra last time out in League One against Cambridge United to make it eight goals in two games for the fifth-placed Dons.
Similarly, Plymouth Argyle romped to a 4-1 victory over Accrington Stanley to preserve their unbeaten slate and dislodge Wigan Athletic at the top of the table. And manager Ryan Lowe ticked off a managerial milestone as he took charge of his 100th Pilgrims game.
Bolton Wanderers rejoiced as the Trotters ended a six-game winless streak, seeing off Crewe 2-0, with goals from Josh Sheehan and Amadou Bakayoko. With that result, Ian Evatt’s men moved up to 11th in the League One standings.
Elsewhere, Portsmouth jumped up four places to 10th position, as they edged Wycombe Wanderers. Marcus Harness’ second-half strike was the difference.
Charlton Athletic made it four unbeaten when the Addicks secured maximum points in a 1-0 win over Burton Albion.
And Ipswich Town and Oxford United drew a blank, as the two teams registered a goalless draw at Portman Road, whilst Sheffield Wednesday split the spoils with Gillingham when the Owls welcomed Steve Evans’ side to Hillsborough.
Setting a new Club record, Exeter City extended their unbeaten streak to 14 League games when they beat Oldham Athletic 2-1. The third-placed Grecians made it four wins on the spin as Matt Jay hit double figures, with the midfielder opening the scoring against the Latics before Jevani Brown added a second.
Meanwhile, Harrogate Town returned to winning ways against Walsall. Prior to November, Simon Weaver’s side were without a win in four.
In our featured 3pm kick-off, Bristol Rovers ended Northampton Town’s four-game winning slate. The Gas came from behind, striking twice in the second period, after Sam Hoskins put the Cobblers a goal to the good in the first-half.
A 2-1 triumph over Hartlepool United was enough to lift Newport County back into the League Two top seven. Attacking duo Courtney Baker-Richardson and Dom Telford made it 11 goals in four outings between the pair who have fired the Exiles up the table and into the Play-Off places.
And Sutton United resigned Tranmere Rovers to a third straight defeat in a 1-0 win and Rochdale salvaged a point against Leyton Orient as Alex Newby struck in the 90th minute to level proceedings at 2-2.
Elsewhere, Stevenage parted company with manager Alex Revell in the wake of a 2-1 defeat to Mansfield Town on home soil. Boro lie in 21st place and without a win in seven upon the departure of the former striker.
