League Two Play-Off Final: What the managers had to say ahead of Wembley…

31 May 2021

As Morecambe face Newport County in today’s Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final, here’s what both managers had to say ahead of the game…

Derek Adams - Morecambe

“It’s an opportunity to get into League One. We’ve done so well to put ourselves in this position and we’re really looking forward to it.

“This game is unique in the sense that victory doesn’t get us three points, it doesn’t get us into the next round, it gets us promotion, and promotion is something that the football club, the players, the staff and the fans want.

“We’ll go to Wembley to try to win the match, we have a lot of players on the team that can score goals and create chances and Wembley is a perfect venue for them.

“We’ve seen over the two legs in the Semi-Finals how much having fans back has helped the flow of the game. The players’ families and friends will be there along with the supporters who have been there all season for us watching on iFollow, they’ll all be supporting their local team and we can’t wait.”

Michael Flynn - Newport County

“Being from the area, I know too well what this means to the people. If I was the one able to get Newport to League One, there wouldn’t be a prouder man in Newport than me. It means everything to me, my wife, my family and friends.

“The Semi-Final was a strange game because we conceded three goals in 15 minutes, and previous to that we had conceded three in about 10 games. But I’ve got a lot of faith in my players and I think the way they responded in the second leg proved me right that I should have faith in them. They stepped up and did the club proud.

“Until you get to Wembley and start soaking up the occasion and the atmosphere, that’s when it starts becoming real and we need to be ready for that.

“It’s all about promotion, we’ve come a long way since I’ve been here as manager and it’s been positive throughout. The only thing missing has been a promotion, that’s what we want more than anything.”
