EFL Chief Executive, Trevor Birch, has issued a message to Gareth Southgate and his England players following Sunday evening's Euro 2020 Final at Wembley Stadium.
He said: "On behalf of everyone associated with the EFL, I would like to congratulate Gareth, the England team and everyone at the Football Association on the fantastic achievements at Euro 2020.
“Whilst the result in the end was disappointing, the pre-match scenes at Wembley Stadium tonight will live long in the memory and were only made possible by a group of individuals with incredible self-belief whose efforts have inspired millions of people in communities up and down the country.
“As a nation we are incredibly proud of our sporting heroes and I am confident that the many successes achieved at the tournament can be used as a power for good and leave a positive lasting legacy, particularly after the challenges the game and wider society has been forced to negotiate as a result of the pandemic.
“Of course, that has only been made possible due to the attitude and aptitude of the team and the impressive team behind the team. They all deserve our respect and thanks for restoring pride in our national team.”
