What the managers had to say ahead of the Carabao Cup Final...

25 April 2021

As the countdown to the 2021 Carabao Cup Final continues, both Pep Guardiola and Ryan Mason have been speaking to the media to look ahead to the match.

Here's just a flavour of what they had to say...

PEP GUARDIOLA - MANCHESTER CITY MANAGER

"We deserve to be here [in the Carabao Cup Final]. We've had a tough competition, especially in the Semis [against Manchester United]. The Final is a game every team wants to win. We'll travel to London to do a good game and try to win.

“It’s a Final and, once you’re there, everyone wants to win it. We’re no exception. Every game must be taken seriously.

“Both [Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero] trained today. Today was Sergio’s first training session so we’re going to decide [whether he'll play a part]."

RYAN MASON - TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR INTERIM MANAGER

“The Premier League and the Carabao Cup are completely different competitions. Form goes out of the window in a cup final, we’ve seen that. It’s a one-off game on the day. Manchester City are a great side with great players, but let’s not forget that we’re a great side with great players too. After Wednesday night’s win we’ll go there believing with confidence on Sunday.

“It would mean a lot, it would mean a lot to the players as well. They’ve had to deal with some difficult moments. But I think most importantly, it's about the feeling the fans would get and what that would do for the football club as a whole.

"These are the game that Tottenham want to be involved in, thankfully we are and hopefully we can go there and get a positive result.

"I remember going [to the 2008 League Cup Final], I remember the game, I remember the manner in which Spurs won the game, but the biggest thing that stuck out for me was seeing Ledley lift the cup that afternoon.

"I was an academy lad and for me and the rest of us to see someone else who had come through the academy lift that trophy, it was such an inspirational moment for so many at that time."
