Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season, Emi Buendia, says to be crowned at the 2021 EFL Awards was a "special" moment.
The Norwich City man finished ahead of team-mate Teemu Pukki and Brentford striker Ivan Toney to claim the award, capping the Canaries' promotion-winning campaign.
Speaking to the media upon receiving the award, the Argentinian said: “I’m really happy to get this type of award; it means a lot to me and to any player who plays in this league.
"To get promoted with this team and this club too, it’s something special. I always try to be ready and focused to help the team. I’m really happy to achieve this.
“The whole time here, the manager gave me the confidence to feel good on the pitch and to try to do my best to help the team, and that’s really important for a player. I think that’s made the difference for me this year."
Norwich have bounced back in style after relegation last season, keeping the core of their squad and making some important additions, which Buendia feels has been key.
“After getting relegated from the Premier League, we knew how difficult the Championship was and how difficult it would be to get back," he added. "The preparation was very good but we had confidence from the beginning to be the best in the league.
“I think the signings the club made in the summer were very good for the club and the spirit in the dressing room. The players made the team go up in terms of quality levels and it’s very important that have that.
“Obviously, experience counts for a lot in this sport and we’ve played for a long time together. We’re really focused and it’s important to have the experiences we’ve had in order to do better next time.
“To be back in the Premier League is amazing for me and I want to keep working and keep going, in order to help the team."
