West Ham United’s Andriy Yarmolenko has been awarded the Carabao Cup Player of the Round, following the Hammers’ emphatic Round Three victory over League One side Hull City.
The West Ham winger enjoyed a night to remember as he shone in a 5-1 victory over Hull City to progress to Round Four of the competition.
The Ukrainian international grasped the opportunity handed to him by manager David Moyes, ending the night with two goals and two assists to his name.
“I’m really pleased to receive this award,” Yarmolenko said said, speaking to the club.
“But I must share it with my teammates, as they helped me play well and give this performance.”
Prior to the Round Three Carabao Cup tie, Yarmolenko had made two substitute appearances in the league, but his two goals and two assists last week certainly saw him make the headlines.
“It was nice to get my first goals of the season and also two assists,” he continued. "But it was a real team effort to win the game – we had some young guys making their debuts and everyone played well to get the victory against Hull.”
West Ham face Everton in Round Four this evening, who defeated Salford City in Round Two, before winning 5-2 at Fleetwood Town in Round Three last week.
The game will be just the third meeting between the two clubs in the competition’s 60-year history, with Everton being victorious on both previous occasions.
The Toffees have also made a strong start to their Premier League campaign, as Carlo Ancelotti's side sit third in the table having won their first three fixtures of the season.
“We now have a big game against Everton to focus on,” Yarmolenko concluded.
"We have belief and confidence after winning our last two matches and we hope for another big performance and a good result to progress to the Quarter-Finals.”
Whilst clubs operate at a zero or reduced capacity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, all Carabao Cup Round Four ties are available to watch on Sky Sports or online (UK only).
