Clinton Morrison on Wednesday's Round Four action

1 October 2020

The Carabao Cup Round Four action continued on Wednesday, with four big ties taking place across the country, and Clinton Morrison was on hand to take it all in.

Speaking as a pundit on EFL on Quest, the former forward discussed all the big talking points, as Newcastle United, Manchester City, Manchester United and Everton joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Quarter-Finals.

On gutsy Newport County...

“Until Callum Wilson came on, Newcastle were creating chances but didn’t look a threat.

“But you have to give huge credit to Michael Flynn and Newport, I thought they were outstanding on the night

“The whole back line was excellent and the goalkeeper Townsend as well. Steve Bruce will know they were in the game and will feel very lucky to go away with the victory.”

On yet another impressive Everton display...

“[Carlo] Ancelotti has always picked a string side for this cup, a really strong side this evening, with James [Rodriguez], [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison, Allan, and it was a positive performance this evening.

“Calvert-Lewin is the in-form striker at the moment alongside Jamie Vardy, so I think he thoroughly deserves to be in that England squad. Gareth Southgate should have a look at him - he’s been excellent so far.”

On Manchester United's need for reinforcements...

“Everyone knows what United need, they need a centre-half, maybe a left-back and definitely a centre-forward.

"They need to strengthen, Man United fans see all these other teams strengthening and are thinking ‘we need to strengthen to challenge for the title’. They need to bring more bodies in.”

On another Kevin De Bruyne masterclass...

“I bet he’s a joy to play with. For all these youngsters coming through at Man City to train with him every day, it's brilliant.

“He always picks the right pass and can drive with the ball too, he is the best midfielder in the world at the moment.”

On Sergio Reguilon's Spurs performance...

“He made a mistake in the first 15 minutes, dived in and made the mistake for the first goal.

"That would affect most players, but it didn’t affect him. I think he’s going to be one hell of a signing.”
