Danny Cowley reviews the weekend action

22 November 2020

Former Huddersfield Town and Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley was a guest pundit on Saturday's EFL on Quest highlights show, discussing the across the Sky Bet Championship and League One.

Here's what he had to say...

On Stoke City 4-3 Huddersfield Town...

“Stoke will be very pleased with the win and their performance, I think they pressed the ball very well. They worked ever so hard at pressing and turning the ball over high up the pitch.

“I think Huddersfield’s performance was erratic, with some good moments going forward, but they’ll be disappointed defensively."

On Millwall 1-1 Cardiff City...

“Credit to Neil Harris, because I think his substitutions changed the complexity of the game brought Ojo on and young Murphy. I think a draw was fair result for both managers that were looking to nick a win in the latter stages”

On Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Watford...

“Watford are just doing enough at the moment in games, and they’ve got top players with real athleticism and individual brilliance. They’re not dominating yet and getting that second goal, which leaves them open to equalisers.”

On AFC Bournemouth 4-2 Reading...

“Reading are really clinical and they don’t need many chances to score, and that put them in a really good position first half.

“The second-half performance was much better from Bournemouth, with a lot more penetration; they’re playing with more and more confidence and Brooks makes them tick.

“What a fantastic strike from Cook, they’ve got goals right across their team and they’ll be right up there come the end of the season,”

On Swansea City 1-0 Rotherham United...

“Both teams had many players out and it hurt Rotherham more than Swansea as they have less depth in their squad.”

On Barnsley 2-0 Nottingham Forest...

“Cauley Woodrow for me now is one of the best number nines in the division. He plays this sort of false-nine role, with good combination skills, and he carries a goal threat.”

On Portsmouth 4-1 Crewe Alexandra

“Sometimes, possession can be very dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing with it, and Crewe are usually very good with the ball. Artell’s done a good job there, but Portsmouth put in a really good performance.”

On MK Dons 1-3 Hull City...

“It's been a fantastic start to the season for Hull, who'd had a really poor time of things last year. It’s great for Hull to stick with their manager and they’re reaping the rewards.”
