Preview: Midweek Championship action!

14 July 2020

The midweek action kicks off with crunch promotion fixture at the Hawthorns, as second-placed West Bromwich Albion entertain fourth-placed Fulham, and after only managing to draw against Blackburn Rovers last time out, the Baggies will be hoping three points can keep their automatic promotion dream alive.

Four of the bottom six are all in action on Tuesday evening as Huddersfield Town, Hull City, Luton Town and Middlesbrough look to secure vital points in their respective fights against relegation.

Turning our attention to Wednesday evening, Brentford are hot on the heels of Slaven Bilic’s side and were mightily impressive against Derby County on Saturday afternoon, a stunning goal from Said Benrahma the highlight of the game.

Three points could take them level on 81 points and joint with West Brom should the Baggies fail to win in their game on Tuesday.

Stoke recorded a much needed win at the weekend with a 2-0 victory over managerless Birmingham City, goals from Danny Batth and Sam Clucas taking Michael O’Neill’s side up to 17th and four points from the drop zone.

Charlton Athletic were unable to pick up any points and sit just one point outside of the drop zone ahead of their game against Birmingham City.

Elsewhere, promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest entertain Swansea City and league leaders Leeds United, who took all three points against the Swans in dramatic fashion at the Liberty Stadium, return to home soil to take on Yorkshire rivals Barnsley at Elland Road. A point could be enough to see the Whites promoted depending on other results.
