The Leasing.com Trophy Player of the Round competition gives fans the opportunity to vote for the player they feel starred in each round of the competition. The nominations for the Player of the Round for the Semi-Finals are as follows:
Ronan Curtis (Portsmouth)
With time running out for twice at Fratton Park, Curtis stepped up on each occasion to be the Pompey saviour. First, he sent in the shot blocked on the line for Marcus Harness to tap Portsmouth level. Then in injury-time, he fizzed over a perfect cross for his side’s winning goal.
Jamille Matt (Newport County)
Ran the channels tirelessly as Newport looked for a winner in normal time. Dovetailed with strike partner Padraig Amond to make spaces for teammates and found time to fire in two efforts on goal. Also kept his cool to stroke home a fine penalty amid the shootout nerves.
Chris Neal (Salford City)
With Newport pressing for a second-half winner, Neal organised his defence to withstand the onslaught. When they needed his help, he was there, too, smartly stopping a Josh Sheehan shot low down before palming Tristan Abrahams’ penalty in the shootout up and on to the bar.
Joel Randall (Exeter City)
The 20-year-old was one of several Exeter youngsters who shone at Fratton Park. Tirelessly running the left flank as a wing-back, he then switched to a more conventional wide position to send in the cross that Portsmouth’s Christian Burgess turned into his own net to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.
An independent football expert selects five worthy players that make up the shortlist for each round and supporters have the chance to vote for the final two.
The two players with the most votes will then be considered by a judging panel consisting of representatives from the EFL, before the overall winner is revealed.
By entering, supporters can win signed merchandise from an EFL League One or League Two club of their choice.
