The August nominations for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award are:
Daniel Johnson (Preston North End) - Midfielder
Four goals and three assists in six games offer proof that Preston manager Alex Neil was right to hand Johnson a more advanced role to start this season. His passes now have more impact as he lends creativity to the North End attack.
Lyle Taylor (Charlton Athletic) – Striker
Has made the transition to Championship football look simple, scoring in five of his first six games at the level and adding an assist. His movement and awareness of teammates have complemented his unshakeable confidence in front of goal.
Mike van der Hoorn (Swansea City) – Central Defender
The defensive rock upon which Swansea’s superb start has been built. Commanding in the air, strong in the tackle and a superb reader of the game. Led his side to three clean sheets as well as heading the winner against Hull.
Ollie Watkins (Brentford) – Striker
Given a central striking role after the departure of Neal Maupay, Watkins has adapted his game superbly. He also coped admirably with the responsibility, scoring four of Brentford’s five goals in August and setting up the other.
