Five things you may have missed from the EFL’s weekend action

2 September 2019

It was another thrilling weekend across the EFL's three divisions! Below, we've rounded up some of the big stories from the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two...

1. Teenage sensation Jude Bellingham's first goal for Birmingham City!

Bellingham, who only turned 16 in June, made his debut for the Blues in their Carabao Cup first round match against Portsmouth.

On Saturday he came off the bench to score the winner on his home debut in the Blues' 2-1 victory over Stoke City.

2. Swansea win at Elland Road for first time in a long time!

A 90th minute winner from Wayne Routledge for the Swans not only saw them leapfrog Leeds as Sky Bet Championship leaders, but it was also only their second win ever at Elland Road.

The last time they won at Leeds was 70 years ago!

3. Keith Hill appointed at Bolton

The former Rochdale and Barnsley manager was appointed Wanderers manager on Saturday.

Hill will be joined in the dugout by fellow Boltonian David Flitcroft who will take the role of the club’s assistant manager.

4. Stevenage's goal drought comes to an end!

After almost nine hours without hitting the back of the net, Stevenage finally scored not one but two goals this weekend.

However Joe Ironside's penalty five minutes from time ensured Macclesfield left Broadhall Way with a point

5. Red-hot Hanson!

Grimsby Town’s James Hanson has been involved in seven goals in his six league appearances for the Mariners with five goals and two assists.

That is as many as in his previous 47 league games during spells with three clubs Sheffield United, Bury and AFC Wimbledon.
