Five things you may have missed from the EFL’s weekend action

10 September 2019

It may have been a reduced fixture list due to the international break, but it was another epic weekend of EFL action! Below, we've rounded up some of the big stories...

1. Hat-trick from a left-back!

The dubious goals committee have ruled that Wycombe Wanderers' second goal in their 3-1 win over Lincoln City was not an own goal and has been awarded to Joe Jacobson. This means the left-back scored a hat-trick of set pieces, which included a free-kick and two corners. The win also moved the Chairboys up to the top of Sky Bet League One.

2. The Cowleys' last match in charge of Lincoln

That 3-1 defeat for Lincoln also marked the end of the Cowley brothers' time in charge of the Imps. Danny and Nicky were appointed manager and assistant manager of Huddersfield Town on Monday. They took over the club in the National League and secured two promotions and a Leasing.com Trophy win in three successive seasons in charge at Sincil Bank.

3. The fastest goal of Sky Bet League One so far!

Blackpool’s Sullay Kaikai scored the fastest goal of the season in League One. The former Crystal Palace winger notched after just 71 seconds against Coventry City.

4. A bad day for penalty takers!

Despite the reduced fixture list, there were six missed penalties missed in Sky Bet League One and Two. It's the highest number of missed penalties on a single day across the top four tiers of English Football since 9 December 2017.

5. Cheltenham firing at home!

Cheltenham Town have scored all 12 of their League Two goals at the the Jonny-Rocks Stadium – more home goals than any other side in the league. Four of those goals came in a 4-2 win over Stevenage, a result which saw the end of Dino Maamria's time in charge at Broadhall Way.
