Charlton Athletic midfielder Conor Gallagher has been named EFL Young Player of the Month for August.
The 19-year-old - currently on loan from Premier League side Chelsea - has made a fine start to life with the Addicks, scoring three goals in his first month of professional football.
Gallagher was part of England's Under-17 World Cup-winning squad in 2017, and his form in 2019/20 has helped Charlton impress on their return to the Sky Bet Championship, with Lee Bowyer's men suffering just one defeat in their opening seven fixtures.
Speaking upon receiving his award, Gallagher said: “I’m buzzing; it’s been a great first month for me at Charlton and I couldn’t have asked for more, really. We’re third in the table and I’ve scored a few goals so we’re just looking to carry on the form that we’re in. I think I’m going to use the award as a mirror!
“I wasn’t expecting to be doing so well, at the start my main aim was to get in the team, but I’m playing well so I’ve stayed in the starting eleven and hopefully I can carry on this form. The Championship is obviously different to development football, but I expected it. I felt that I was ready to step up and I think I’ve shown that I’m ready to play at this level.”
Gallagher and Charlton will look to continue their form this weekend, when they travel north to take on Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
