The September nominations for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award are:
James Clarke (Walsall) – central defender
Central defenders aren’t supposed to score goals like his acrobatic late bicycle kick winner against Scunthorpe or his 30-yard thunderbolt at Crawley. His presence was also vital at the back as Walsall kept four clean sheets in five games.
Tommy Lowery (Crewe Alexandra) – midfielder
The midfield lynchpin for a Crewe side that is built on fluency, Lowery demonstrated his eye for a goal with three in five games, including a wonderful effort against Salford featured the most impudent of flicks.
Lee Martin (Exeter City) – Attacking midfielder
Playing in a more advanced role this season, his goals and influence kept Exeter at the top of League Two. He scored his side’s openers at Carlisle and Newport, as well as claiming an assist and a goal as a substitute against Port Vale.
Paudie O’Connor (Bradford City) – central defender
An aggressive centre-back who attacks the ball with gusto, the Irishman ensured that Bradford conceded no more than one goal in any September game. He also stepped forward at set-pieces to score two decisive ones himself.
