Leeds star Ben White in line for England call?

The young defender has produced a series of standout performances in 2019/20

"I'll be absolutely amazed if he's not at least on England's radar!"

Those are the views of Leyton Orient captain Jobi McAnuff on Leeds United defender Ben White, who has been one of the standout players in the Sky Bet Championship so far this season.

On loan from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, White has caught the eye of managers, pundits and fellow players alike and, speaking on the latest episode of the official EFL podcast, McAnuff says Gareth Southgate will be well aware of the 22-year-old's talents.

"I think that with the way Southgate wants England to play now, and the fact that he's massive on bringing young players through, I'm absolutely certain that he'll be keeping tabs on him," he said.

"It's a good group of young centre-halves he's got at the moment for England, and White's come into what is clearly a really tough environment to play in, Leeds are such a big club and they're under pressure to perform.

"He's played every game and they've got the best defensive record in the division; he shows a maturity way beyond his 22 years and has so much composure on the ball."

Indeed, 20 of the 23 players to represent the Three Lions at the 2018 World Cup had either made their debuts in the EFL or come through an EFL academy, and McAnuff believes White could well be the next on the list.

"He also steps out into midfield to overload that area sometimes," he added. "For me, he's got a massive future, whatever happens this season. He'll be hoping Leeds get promoted, and there is an option for him to be recalled by Brighton of course.

"I'd love to see him in the Premier League at some point and I'm sure he'll acquit himself really well when he does."
