There are some fantastic fixtures to look forward to in both the Northern and Southern section!

26 November 2019

Round Two of the Trophy is almost upon us, with things heating up as the road to Wembley continues!

There are 16 Trophy ties to look forward to across the Northern and Southern sections respectively, with games to be played w/c 2 December, and we've picked out just a few of the standout clashes...

Northern section

Port Vale v Mansfield Town

An all-League Two clash at Vale Park sees Port Vale take on Mansfield Town, with the hosts still unbeaten on home soil in both the league and Trophy this season. Mansfield, Play-Off Semi-Finalists in 2018/19, finished as runners up in Northern Group E, and will be hoping they don't miss out on Wembley again this time around. The most recent meeting between the sides was a thrilling 2-2 draw, meaning this has the potential to be a cracker.

Accrington Stanley v Bolton Wanderers

Two League One sides in Accrington and Bolton will go head-to-head in Round Two, after Stanley topped Northern Group B with maximum points, while Bolton finished as runners-up in Northern Group F. The sides recently met in the league, with Stanley running out 7-1 winners at the end of an incredible match, meaning the visitors will be looking for revenge here.

Manchester United U21 v Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere Rovers tasted Wembley success last season, earning promotion to League One via the Play-Offs, and they'll be hoping to do so again in this year's Trophy. They take on Manchester United U21s, who finished top of Northern Group H, after impressively seeing off three League One sides in Doncaster Rovers, Lincoln City and Rotherham United.

Southern section

Peterborough United v Ipswich Town

Arguably the tie of the round, Peterborough's clash with Ipswich promises to be a memorable one. The two sides are battling for promotion in League One, and played out an entertaining 2-2 draw when they met at London Road back in August. United topped Southern Group H with nine points from nine, while Ipswich were pipped to top spot by a single point in Southern Group A.

Brighton & Hove Albion U21 v Newport County

Brighton U21s' Trophy journey has been an eye-catching one so far. They saw off Leyton Orient, AFC Wimbledon and Southend United in the Group Stage to reach Round Two, and will face Newport County, who featured in an incredible 7-4 win over Cheltenham Town to secure their progression. Who will come out on top here?

Colchester United v Stevenage

It was Colchester who beat Ipswich to top spot in Southern Group A and, in doing so, they've set up a tie with fellow League Two side Stevenage, who finished second in Southern Group G behind Milton Keynes Dons. Colchester have already reached the Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals, and will be hoping for another fantastic cup run in the Trophy.
