Team of the Week: 15-18 March

20 March 2019

It's that time again! Check out the EFL Team of the Week for 15-18 March...

Goalkeeper: Adam Davies (Barnsley)

The Tykes shot-stopper was in formidable form in Friday evening’s South Yorkshire derby against Doncaster Rovers.

The Barnsley skipper made a string of saves from the Rovers forward line, which resulted in a clean sheet and a point away from home.

Defender: Omar Beckles (Shrewsbury Town)

After conceding the free-kick which led to Wycombe Wanderers’ opening goal, Beckles made sure he atoned for his error by pulling the Salop level in the dying moments of the game.

The defender was resolute in the final moments of the game, which eventually saw Shrewsbury nick the three points with a last-minute penalty.

Defender: Ben Godfrey (Norwich City)

The Canaries strengthened their grip on top spot with a 2-1 victory over Rotherham United at the weekend, with defender Ben Godfrey stealing the headlines.

His second-half header proved to be the difference on the day, a player who has gone from strength to strength this season.

Defender: James Pearson (Macclesfield Town)

Macclesfield Town took another step towards safety at the weekend with an impressive 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Yeovil Town.

James Pearson’s powerful strike set the Silkmen on their way to three points, and another valuable clean sheet for the 26-year-old defender.

Midfielder: Kyle Edwards (West Bromwich Albion)

It was a day to remember for West Bromwich Albion midfielder Kyle Edwards, as he marked his full league debut with a stunning individual goal.

The 21-year-old picked up the ball just inside the Brentford half, before setting off and leaving everybody in his wake and slotting it past Luke Daniels in the Bees net.

Midfielder: Chris Basham (Sheffield United)

In one of the biggest games of the season, up stepped Chris Basham to make sure Sheffield United would claim all three points against Leeds United.

As the ball was laid off to him by Billy Sharp in the 71st minute, the midfielder expertly guided the ball home to send the Blades back into second place, at the expense of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Midfielder: Jarrod Bowen (Hull City)

Hull City fans will probably be wondering where they might be in the Sky Bet Championship table without the goals that Jarrod Bowen has brought them this season.

The midfielder was on the scoresheet twice as the Tigers drew 2-2 with Queens Park Rangers.

Midfielder: Ilias Chair (Stevenage)

Ilias Chair has an unbelievable record when it comes to scoring some outrageous goals for Stevenage this season, and on Saturday he added another to the list.

Chair picked the ball up from 35-yards-out and guided a powerful drive into the bottom corner of the MK Dons goal, take a bow son.

Forward: Chris Porter (Crewe Alexandra)

Clinical as ever, Chris Porter found himself on the scoresheet once again in Crewe’s impressive 6-1 victory over Crawley Town at the weekend.

Alongside Jordan Bowery, who is also included in this week’s TOTW - the pair have built up an important partnership this season.

Forward: Joe Pigott (AFC Wimbledon)

AFC Wimbledon are one of 13 teams that could be relegated to Sky Bet League Two come the end of the season, but if Joe Pigott has anything to do with it, they’ll be in safe hands.

Another strike from the forward brings him up to 13 goals in all competitions, his goal against Southend was enough for all three points.

Forward: Jordan Bowery (Crewe Alexandra)

A goal and an assist for Bowery at the weekend in a 6-1 rout against Crawley Town at Gresty Road.

Crewe have gone from strength to strength under the stewardship of David Artell, and with the partnership he has formed with Bowery, the Alex are in the rise.

Manger: Paul Cook (Wigan Athletic)

There is only eight miles between Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers but the scoreline almost matched that total at the weekend.

Cook masterminded his side to a 5-2 victory over the Trotters in the Lancashire derby at the DW Stadium.
