Louis Dennis scoops Checkatrade Trophy award

The Portsmouth man has been named Player of the Round for Round Three

Portsmouth's Louis Dennis has been named Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round for Round Three.

The attacker produced a standout display in Pompey's victory over Southend, scoring one goal and creating another as his side secured a 2-0 win.

Kenny Jackett's men will now face Peterborough at the Quarter-Final stage on Tuesday evening, and Dennis is hoping to be involved again.

"It's a great feeling to win this award," he said. "Southend fielded a strong team on the night, but we started quickly and that always sets you up well for a win.

"It's going to be another great test against Peterborough. They're right up there with us in Sky Bet League One and I'm sure they'll be wanting a bit of revenge. It should be a great game.

"The prize at the end of this competition is brilliant, every footballer wants to play at Wembley. If we can get to the Final, can you imagine the number of fans that would be there? It would be some experience."

Dennis' playing time in the league has been limited so far this season, but the 26-year-old says the Checkatrade Trophy has given him a fantastic platform to showcase his talents.

"Chances in the league haven't come too often so far, but this competition is a great chance to get minutes and show the fans and the manager what you can do. Hopefully I've done that so far," he added.

"In football, you want to win any game you go into, whether it's a league match or cup competition. With a prize like Wembley, why not give it your all to get there?"
