Matchday 30: Team of the Week

28 January 2019

Jak Alnwick (Scunthorpe United)

The goalkeeper had to be at his best as Scunthorpe secured a gritty 1-0 win at Fleetwood Town, and he was. Alnwick made a number of key saves, including a brave stop with the clock ticking down, on the way to a big three points.

Jack Rodwell (Blackburn Rovers)

The former Everton and Sunderland man is excelling in his new role at centre-back, and netted his first goal in two years - his first for his current employers - as Rovers impressively saw off in-form Hull City at Ewood Park. He was equally solid at the back, contributing to another clean sheet.

Curtis Tilt (Blackpool)

Two assists at one end and a clean sheet at the other represents a good afternoon's work for the defender, who played a vital role in the Tangerines' win at Coventry City, which has re-ignited their Sky Bet League One Play-Off push.

Ludvig Ohman (Grimsby Town)

The defender came through what was a tricky test against high-flying MK Dons, producing a standout display to weather the storm with his side down to 10 men for more than half of the game. Ohman and Grimsby kept a clean sheet and secured a first win of 2019.

Mateusz Klich (Leeds United)

Klich was at the heart of Leeds' comeback win over Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United on Saturday, scoring twice - including a late winner - to keep his side top of the Sky Bet Championship. Another superb display from the Poland international.

Jorge Grant (Mansfield Town)

The on-loan Nottingham Forest man was the stand out perfromer in the Stags' 3-0 win over Tranmere Rovers at the weekend. Grant scored a brace in the game and opened his goal-scoring account by whipping in a stunning 20-yard free-kick into the top right-hand corner.

Joe Lolley (Nottingham Forest)

Lolley marked his 50th Forest appearance with a goal in the side's 3-1 victory over Wigan Athletic at the City Ground; the midfielder also turned in a Man-of-the-Match performance as Martin O'Neill's side rose to ninth in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Hope Akpan (Bradford City)

The Bantams had to settle for a point against Burton Albion on Saturday at the Pirelli Stadium, thanks to a 68th-minute strike from Akpan. The midfielder was a constant threat throughout and deserves his place in the Team of the Week.

Alan Browne (Preston North End)

It's back-to-back wins for North End with Alan Browne scoring in both games, most recently against Stoke City in a 2-0 victory. A smart Cruyff turn inside the Potters' box saw him evade a sliding challenge before placing the ball past England goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Billy Sharp (Sheffield United)

You just cannot stop this man from finding the back of the net at the moment. Sharp has 18 goals in the Sky Bet Championship this season, just one behind leader Tammy Abraham. The Blades gained a huge point at Carrow Road in a 2-2 draw with Norwich City, with that man Sharp netting a brace.

Tammy Abraham - Aston Villa

A man in fine form, Abraham bagged another two goals at the weekend and fired his Aston Villa side to a 2-1 win over the Sky Bet Championship's bottom club, Ipswich Town.

Manager: Michael Duff - Cheltenham Town

Duff's side were 2-0 down at half-time to Macclesfield Town at the weekend but, with some strong words and some equally strong performances from his players, the Robins turned the game on its head and ran out 3-2 winners at the LCI Rail Stadium.
